Jun 15, 2019 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

My apologies but the painting project for the picnic tables at the picnic shelter will be Sat. 10:00 not tomorrow at 10:00.  I will also leave a note at the shelter tomorrow morning before I head across the bay to do some Water Trail projects.

Russian Business Major Intern From Irkutsk +Sched
Jul 05, 2019 - Jul 21, 2019

Maria is a 21 year old Rotary sponsored business major at Irkutsk State University, which is near Lake Baikal, Siberia, Russia.  Maria will be hosted by our club from July 5 to July 19, 2019 for a "watch and learn" business/work internship.  Maria will be available for work experiences during the weeks of July 8-12 and July 15-19.  Her goals in her own words are:  I am currently majoring in management at Irkutsk State University, Baikal International Business School, Russia. I am a fourth–year student who is looking forward to getting some valuable international experience in the field of management, marketing, and finance. I'm also interested in logistics, foreign languages, leadership, and American culture. My participation in a wide variety of volunteering and community service projects through Rotary will give me that further booster that I need to advance my business career.
I want to participate in this internship, because it will help me understand how business processes are managed in American companies. I want to meet professionals with high ethical standards in business, get acquainted with new people, whom I can share my stories about Russian culture and learn more exciting things about American customs, traditions, and values of cultural heritage.

Maria was selected to participate in this program by her University's professors.  The goals of the "Watch and Learn" internship program (in the program's description) are threefold:
1) to make Russian business students familiar with ethical business practices in a free market economy
2) to immerse them in your culture and language and Rotary,
3) to get them exposed to volunteering and social responsibility in action through Rotary and its activities as a service organization

I know you are asking what can she do in my business? She can job shadow someone or you can put her to work.

Maria’s skills include Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Corel, Gimp, Photoshop. She is fluent in English and has great social skills.

Consider the possibilities.  When was the last time you upgraded your mailing lists, contacted your clients with a new offer or just to keep in touch with them, updated your facebook page or web site, inventoried that back room, etc.  This is a wonderful opportunity to show and teach your business practices to a young person from Russia who is eager to learn and has a career ahead of her.

You have an opportunity to work on a wonderful project sponsored by our Rotary Club.

You can also offer to host Maria in your home or include her in an activity. She would also like to assist with any volunteer work that any of us do for our club, or for other organizations.  She will be here July 5-19.

I hope you will consider participating in this project.

Choose your days and let Sue Clardy know.

A COSMIC HAMLET BY THE SEA Vol. 2
Aug 22, 2019 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM

Our club is sponsoring an event at the SPARC this Thursday from 7 to 8 PM. The event is produced by the Bunnell Street Arts Center and is titled A COSMIC HAMLET BY THE SEA Vol. 2. It is a very interesting approach to interesting presentations that are brief and concise using a technique called Pechakucha! Very nice article as well as advertisement in the Homer news page B1.

Transportation to Gordon's BBQ in Halibut Cove
Sep 01, 2019 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

The Halibut Cove BBQ is fast approaching! At this time we have 34 planning to attend! In addition to the AR which is Stillpoint Lodge's boat (23) passengers we have Steve Yoshida and Paul Seaton's boats. we are needing both of  the boats to get everyone over and back. Steve has room for several people more. Paul Seaton has room for 4, his boat is a large 23 foot open set net skiff so if you are traveling with Paul and Tina dress appropriately! Contact Paul at 299-3434 or email at < pkseaton@gmail.com >.

A reminder to bring a Dish to share ,as well as any beverage that you may want for yourself or to share. Last year those who were on the Stillpoint Lodge boat were encouraged to Tip the staff as we disembarked. The same would be appreciated this year. We are very fortunate to have them donate their time and vessel. Without them we would be looking at the expense of water taxi's which would likely decrease attendance!

The Stillpoint Lodge's boat will be loading at RAMP 1, planning to leave at 1pm.  PLEASE BE EARLY!

Our new Exchange Student, Euna, will be attending, it has been brought to my attention that some one on one conversation would be appreciated as she continues to adjust to her new life and our language. She is still adjusting to larger groups.

~Yours In Rotary~
